Call for Sessions and Proposals

Deadline Extended to May 31st

The Association for Interdisciplinary Studies invites proposals for sessions, papers, panels, workshops, and roundtables for the 48th annual conference.

AIS 2026 centers on translational research and teaching—interdisciplinary work that bridges the gap between researchers, educators, practitioners, policymakers, and community partners.

In an era of complex global and local challenges, translational approaches strengthen interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary work by activating knowledge beyond academic boundaries. Translational research and teaching emphasize moving ideas into action, connecting theory with practice, and linking campus-based work to community needs and societal impact.

We welcome proposals from all fields that examine the theory, practice, history, ethics, and the future of translational work. We are especially interested in contributions focused on:

  • Moving integrated knowledge into practice – Applying and evaluating research in real-world contexts
  • Co-producing research with communities, practitioners, or policymakers – Collaborative research across boundaries
  • Building and sustaining community-university partnerships – Long-term structures for meaningful, reciprocal engagement
  • Translational pathways across academic and professional fields – Cross-disciplinary and cross-sector movement of knowledge
  • Innovations in interdisciplinary methodology – Integrative methods that bridge disciplines and perspectives
  • Developing translational skills in our students – Pedagogical practices, curricula, and experiential learning for impact-focused education

As always, AIS2026 welcomes contributions that more broadly address:

Ongoing interdisciplinary research

Program administration and assessment

Pedagogy and curriculum design

Establishing and assessing rigor in interdisciplinary curricula
